A class of systems that generate constraint-aware production plans and schedules by optimizing across capacity, materials, and demand, often as a layer above ERP.

An APS system sequences a week of orders across five lines to hit due dates while minimizing changeovers.
Common misconception
APS is not the same as ERP scheduling; ERP typically assumes infinite capacity, while APS respects finite constraints.
Why it matters operationally
Without constraint-aware planning, schedules look feasible on paper but fail on the floor.
